Job Summary:
The Urban Economist will be responsible for conducting in-depth economic analysis and research related to urban development, with a focus on the economic aspects of urban planning, policy, and management. Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct rigorous economic analysis of urban development projects, policies, and programs.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret economic data, including demographic, employment, housing, and transportation data.
- Develop economic models and forecasting techniques to assess the potential impact of urban policies or interventions.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses and evaluate the economic viability of urban projects.
- Provide expertise and guidance on economic development strategies, including urban revitalization, infrastructure investment, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with urban planners, policymakers, and stakeholders to identify innovative approaches and solutions to urban economic challenges.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and economic impact assessments to communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and research in the field of urban economics.
- Assist in the development of grant proposals and funding applications to support urban economic development projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Economics, Urban Economics, or a related field.
- Proven experience (X years) working as an Urban Economist or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of economic theories, principles, and statistical methods.
- Proficiency in quantitative analysis, including econometric modeling and statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python).
- Demonstrated ability to conduct economic research, analyze complex data sets, and generate actionable insights.
- Familiarity with urban planning principles, policies, and development practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex economic concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of local, national, and international economic development trends and policies.
